In this session Shel will help you:

- See (and hear) real-world examples of synthetic media being used effectively in communication strategies.
- Learn how to add synthetic media — and GenAI in general — to your routine workflows.

1:15 – 2:15 p.m. | Sharing your employee’s internal stories with external audiences
Internal communications groups in the Government of Canada have always been on the forefront of highlighting and telling the stories of their employees. Today, their expertise is being leveraged beyond the walls of the organizations and there is a growing appetite to strategically share employee and client stories to further federal government communications objectives.
From recruitment campaigns to showing tax dollars at work in a way that resonates, storytelling is a powerful tool for the Government of Canada. Publicly sharing the stories of staff also highlight the efforts Canada has made as an employer to become more diverse and inclusive and reflective of the country.
Internally, seeing colleagues being celebrated can increase morale and a sense of connection with the organization.
But sharing those authentic and personal stories online also comes with risk. How do you mitigate those risks and protect those who are willing to put themselves out there and share their stories?
In this session, Crofton will:
- Outline the unique challenges and opportunities associated with telling stories on behalf of the Government of Canada.
- Discuss the importance of co-developing stories with the participants, ensuring their comfort at all levels.
- Explore the value of selecting story participants that reflect the diversity of the Canada
- Examine some of the risks associated with sharing internal employee stories on social media.
- Speak about authenticity in storytelling and imposter syndrome that can creep in when telling other people’s stories.
This presentation will look at a particular case study that was done at the Department of Justice Canada in 2023-24 and the lessons learned along the way (Our stories (justice.gc.ca).
Crofton Steers, Communications Manager and one of Canada’s Free Agents (Justice Canada)
